This art features a bystander dealing with thoughts that anyone might experience before confronting a situation they see. Our program often highlights "the 3 Ds" while discussing ways to intervene. Here is what a youth thought about the messaging: "Even if the bystanders believe sexual and teen dating violence is wrong, they still may be afraid to speak up because some may fear of being targeted by the perpetrator themselves. They fear getting involved could have negative social consequences on them. Many times the bystanders go through confusion whether the victim needs help or not. When you don’t know the person, it’s more difficult to take action so bystanders choose to not speak up." Some people grow up with the concept of ‘love conquers all’ and ‘if you really love someone, you accept them for who they are.’ What some don’t understand is that there are limitations. A woman or man could mistreat their significant other but then randomly start being affectionate and say ‘if you really loved me you would understand.’ This leads to the person being abused to stay and sometimes some stay until it’s to late.
