The Edgewood Trail now continues north from Ellis Road NW, connecting users across the bridge over the Cedar River. It looks like there are a few loose ends to tie up before the trail is officially open (we entered near Robins Lake, where closure signs were not posted 😉).
The trail extends south to O Avenue NW (Rogers Road) with near-term plans to connect northward to Glass Road NE. The Glass Road connection will happen in three phases. The section pictured, from Ellis Road to the bridge, was the first phase. The next phase will be the connection between Glass Road and the Cedar River bridge. The final phase will be widening the pedestrian path on the bridge over the Cedar River (you can see in the photo it is a narrow passageway at present). The Ellis Trail connects this trail to downtown Cedar Rapids.

With the unseasonably warm weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday this week, the Mount Trashmore trails and overlook will open for those two days only!
Visitors can use the trails and take in the view from the top of Mount Trashmore from 8:30am – 4:30pm Wednesday, December 09 and Thursday, December 10. There is not lighting on Mount Trashmore and all users need to exit before the sun goes down for safety.
Only Overlook Trail, for walking and bicycling, and Trashmore Trail, the downhill flow-trail for bicycles only, will be available to use. The Stumptown Trail was heavily damaged during the derecho and the bridges and stairs on that trail have not been replaced yet.
Building 948’, which suffered tremendous damage during the derecho, has been repaired. All visitors need to check-in at the kiosk inside Building 948’. Please wear masks and practice social distancing during check-in. A waiver must also be filled out. Come out and visit!

TRAIL CLOSURE NEAR CEDAR LAKE
From the City of Cedar Rapids: Work is currently underway on the first phase of flood control at the Shaver Road NE bridge, over McLoud Run (aka Cold Stream). Starting today (January 7), the Cedar Valley Nature Trail will be closed from 10th Street NE, along McLoud Run, and south to the Cedar Lake Loop located at the northwest corner of Cedar Lake. A detour has been established along 10th Street NE.
The trail closure is associated with the work taking place at Shaver Road, which will include elevating the bridge and constructing a trail underpass. The trail segment in this area will remain closed for approximately the next three years.
