Tracy Wisehart-Plaisance was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spine, in September 2018. While Tracy continues to battle stage 4 glioblastoma, she finds solace in her one-car garage art studio in Cut Off, Louisiana. Tracy is an incredible impressionist painter, and her artwork reflects the love and positivity she exudes in everyday life. Tracy says, “I’ve always painted from a happy place. Me being happy painting, I think it reflects in my work, and I’ve seen people look at my art and smile.”
If you are interested in purchasing art by Tracy, Tracy Wisehart-Plaisance Fine Art has partnered with Lagniappe Frame Shoppe to become an Ochsner Community Champion by hosting a giveback event on a selection of her artwork, including masks and canvases. Louisiana native and artist Tracy Plaisance was on the trip of a lifetime in France when she experienced two grand mal seizures. Upon returning home she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord.

#OchsnerHero Morgan Hahn, RN, hasn't just taken care of COVID patients; she's been a COVID patient herself, hospitalized at Ochsner. Hahn has an urgent plea to the public for this holiday season.
"Eight months ago, I volunteered to temporarily leave my job in the PICU to work on the frontlines in the adult COVID ICU. As a new nurse, I was overwhelmed. I was working alongside people I had never met before. I was in unfamiliar territory. I was scared of the unknown, but I knew I had people counting on me. These patients were critically ill. Every single one of them. We experienced so much pain and loss in such a short amount of time. We had bruises on our faces from our N95s. Our skin was peeling from the excessive amount of hand sanitizer and soap. The only thing we had left at the end of each shift was each other. I worked alongside people of all ages and specialties from cath lab, clinic nurse practitioners, anesthesiology, med surg, agency nurses and so on. We came from all over, yet we showed up each and every day for each other. We learned from each other and showed resilient team work each shift.
"After a short amount of time working there I became sick with COVID. Instead of fighting other people’s battles, it was time to fight my own. I ended up being hospitalized at Ochsner, and being on the other side of the pandemic was frightening. I was no longer the brave nurse comforting the sick. I was the patient relying on fellow Ochsner employees to comfort me and heal me. I felt weak and defeated, but I had an amazing team to get back to and I was not going to let this virus hold me back. I returned to work as soon as I was cleared.
"Here we are eight months later. I never imagined we’d still be consumed by COVID. We’ve sacrificed so much this year and it’s challenging to see the light at the end of the tunnel. When I start to feel burned out I turn to my coworkers, who continuously fuel my fire. They give me strength and constantly remind me that the fight isn’t over yet. We still have a lot of work to do.
"So I encourage each one of you to wear a mask. Social distance yourself. Wash your hands. Protect your loved ones during this holiday season. Be patient with this process. We’re doing our part and we need you to do yours!"

Eli Brown was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart. Ochsner Health’s team of experts performed the Norwood procedure, one of the most complex open-heart surgeries available, to provide Eli with a better quality of life. Post-surgery, Eli was enrolled in our single ventricle monitoring program so that his family could keep track of his progress and take care of his needs at home between surgeries. Eli's parents were equipped with a scale, pulse monitor, and a tablet to track any symptoms he had. Juggling Eli's complex situation in the midst of COVID-19 was made simple with the use of technology to connect Eli's care team to his parents. Eli's mom, Narissa Brown, says the peace of mind this program provided made it possible to go to bed each night knowing Eli was in great hands.
