This program taught me the importance of patient education and the need for research to manage complex diseases effectively, especially cancer. I continued to build on this knowledge during my internal medicine/pediatrics residency training at Creighton University, and my hematology and medical oncology fellowship training at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
