In 2018, students designed and built these cars and our current students are eager to race them. This year, students are building two new race cars that will be completed later this school year. ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐: I love spending time with my wife Bridget, my dog Winnie, and my large extended family. ๐ซ ๐ถ I also enjoy sharing my Catholic faith with others and researching local and religious history. โช๏ธ

Throughout much of my schooling, the learning seemed inauthentic and rigidly tied to acquiring textbook knowledge. Penta's staff recognizes authentic learning extends way beyond the textbook. True education can't be confined to a brick and mortar classroom or a given class period. True education is lifelong and has to be fully integrated into the way individuals think about and approach their careers and every aspect of their personal and social lives. Penta understands and embraces this educational philosophy.

/๐๐๐๐๐๐๐?: The social studies field compels students to think beyond themselves but also to think for themselves. Subjects like American History, World Issues, American Government and Psychology enables students to learn about and develop empathy for people from different times, cultures, political mindsets, and mentalities. Meanwhile, these same subjects encourage students to consider biases, gather credible evidence for themselves and come to individualized conclusions about the confusing society around them.

๐๐๐๐: Never take yourself too seriously and be present in the moment. Most importantly, always reach out to fellow students who are outcast, made fun of or sitting by themselves at lunch. This week, students in Functional Academics welcomed Officer Grooms, Penta's school resource officer from the Perrysburg Township Ohio Police Department, as a guest speaker. He talked to students about what it's like to be a resource officer for a career center, what he did when he served in the army, and answered student questions. Exercise Science & Sports Medicine students took advantage of the weather and had their anatomy studies outside! They used chalk drawings to practice labeling and identifying body regions. This week, Firefighter students collaborated with Medical Technologies Academy students to help them learn about fire extinguishers. ๐งฏInstructor Mr. Perry presented information on: how to identify the type of fire, the proper extinguisher to use, different classes of fire and how to operate the extinguisher. Students then went to the training grounds to apply their knowledge and get work-based experience so they will be prepared with the skills to properly react in the event a fire occurs in their career field. ๐ฅ #PentaPride #PerfectEffort
This week, students engaged with the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce in a virtual meeting. Adam Levine, the new director of The Toledo Museum of Art, was the feature presenter and spoke about finding mentors throughout your life. Students from several different programs were in attendance including Criminal Justice, Automotive Collision Repair and Heating & Air Conditioning Technology. Students from the Small Animal Care Program asked for donations of stuffed animals to use while practicing physical exams. Thanks to Dr. Bob Falkenstein, assistant superintendent of Penta, we now have a huge stuffed dog we named "Lucky." #PentaPride #PerfectEffort

Last week, Transition To Work students participated in their First Quarter Activity Day. During this activity, students spoke with a virtual employer panel to ask the best practices for the job interview process, from filling out the application, interviewing and maintaining the job. Students also practiced sending professional emails by following up with volunteers from the panel to say thank you for the valuable information provided. Did you know? In September 1965 Penta County Joint Vocational School District opened its doors to students for the first time. We were the very first multi-county joint vocational school district in the State of Ohio and the country! On the first day of school, 750 students had been registered from the 16 schools, and when the buses arrived, they had 1,000 students! Weโre so proud of how it all began and where we are today!

As we approach almost 11 months in this pandemic, we all NEED something! Some may need: a hug, a smile, a โthank you,โ or even a deep breath; and this amazing bulletin board outside of the nurses' clinic can help! This board is full of uplifting notes that allows students to read or take with them as a reminder to stay positive! ๐
