Randall L. Murphy, Jr., MD, received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, graduating summa cum laude, from Furman University in Greenville, SC. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude. He completed his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency from Greenville Hospital System, Greenville, SC. Following residency, he completed a one-year orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship from Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in Jackson MS, and New Orleans, LA. After receiving his sports medicine training he returned to Alabama to work as a partner, team physician, and surgeon at the Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons in Montgomery, AL.
Dr. Murphy is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon. He is a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a candidate member of the American Shoulder Elbow Society, and an active member of American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Southern Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Murphy has a passion for sports medicine and the health of athletes. He has served as medical director and team physician of Huntingdon College, as well as team physician at Faulkner University, Alabama State, Alcorn State and Delta State University. He has also served as team physician with the Montgomery Biscuits Baseball, Macon East Academy, Lowndes Academy, and during the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game. Additionally, he has assisted with preparticipation high school exams and sideline coverage in South Carolina and Alabama. Dr. Murphy will work in our Montgomery clinic and devote his practice to sports injuries and the care of athletes.
