Brilliant wines from the Northern Rhône producer Franck Balthazar. The Cornas is from 100 year old vines planted on granite soil. Insanely interestingly intriguing ($74). The Cotes du Rhône (75% Syrah / 25% Grenache) is from equally old vines. Stainless steel, wild yeasts, tiny SO2. A fresh and pure expression of Côtes du Rhône ($22). #renegadewines

Fabulous Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs. Finely knit and mineral-driven, this sleek version offers abundant smoke and chalk accents to the pear tart, chopped hazelnut, lemon curd and spring blossom notes. Shows focus and length in an elegant package, with a lasting, creamy finish. Less than 5 grams dosage with annual production maxing out at 1650 cases. This is world class. In stock today: $68/750ml & $155/1500ml

This is some serious Chablis. Probably the most intriguing bottle all year. Powerful and serious with excellent minerality and touching salinity. Don’t forget the impressively long finish. Outstanding! We have a few bottles in stock. La Reserve de l’Obedience refers to the selection of the very best barrels from Blanchot Grand Cru vineyard. We love Decanter’s term for the wine: “Monastic”. We are open until 6pm the rest of the week.

An amazing chilly beach walk this afternoon. Hendrys beach was empty like we’ve never seen in years.
Continuing our Sunday Champagne Brunch Sessions we popped open this 2002 from Aubrey.
The 2002 Le Nombre d'Or is 25% Fromenteau, 20% Arbanne, 20% Petit Meslier, 15% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier which makes for a very unusually Champagne blend. This wine is gorgeous and vibrant in its expression of flowers, orange peel, smoke, minerals and spices. Slightly oxidative notes add a further measure of complexity. This is an exotic, captivating wine that engages all of the senses at once, inviting a quiet moment of contemplation. This 2002 is at or just over it’s peak and is best (was best) with food (brunch) but if you love mature Champagnes this one has it in spades. #renegadewines #santabarbara

Basically a beautiful Grenache (90%) with 4% each of Syrah & Mourvèdre. Neutral oak and stainless steel + 100% destemmed. Red berry fruit, toasted spice, garrigue notes...this is impossible to resist. $86 and in stock ...and those with math skills: the other 2% in the blend are equal parts Vaccarese and Counoise. We are open until 6pm the rest of the week.
When drinking a Merkelbach Riesling...
Six bottles from legendary producer Thierry Allemand have arrived. A single vineyard bottling (Reynard Vineyard) of older vines. This a dark, brooding, sophisticated wine full of intoxicating aromas, concentration, and smoky minerality. IM if interested. #renegadewines
