Kids love fun and silly Band-Aids. Ryan, a cancer patient, said picking out a new design from the Band-Aid Binder was his favorite part of going to the clinic. To celebrate his 3-year diagnosis anniversary and upcoming end to treatment, he held a Band-Aid Drive and collected over 300 boxes of bandages! They came from school, family, friends, and even a dance studio in Maine! Ryan knows little things like bright and colorful Band-Aids make the hospital friendlier, and his efforts will bring a smile to kids all across the hospital. Way to go, Ryan!

The health of our patients, caregivers, and community is our top priority. Due to rising COVID cases, we are following CDC recommendations calling for health care facilities to restrict visitors. Beginning Monday, Nov. 16, children admitted to the hospital may have two visitors (advocate, parent, or guardian only). We understand the importance of seeing loved ones while they are receiving care, and know the value visitors bring to our patients. During this time, we encourage our families to communicate more through phone and video calls.

Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital received a special visit on Dec. 23 from the @UmatillaCountySheriff, based out of Pendleton, Oregon. UCSO and Walmart partnered together to hit the road and bring toys to several children’s hospitals in Washington and Oregon. UCSO arrived at SHCH with a U-Haul trailer full of gifts for patients receiving care during the holidays.
The effort was organized by UCSO Deputy Mike Ellwood, whose daughter, Jasmine, spent time in children’s hospitals while she battled cancer. Jasmine is now cancer free and recently graduated high school. She plans to pursue a career as a nurse or child life specialist. Deputy Ellwood and his family created the toy drive tour to pay the kindness forward.
Providence will begin offering drive-through COVID testing on Jan. 5, at Providence Medical Park, 16528 E Desmet Ct., Spokane Valley, Wash. The testing site will operate Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can be tested without leaving their cars, and appointments are not necessary.
This testing site is able to test asymptomatic patients ages two years and older and symptomatic patients over the age of 12. Pediatric patients between the ages of two and 12 years who are experiencing symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, fever of 100.4 or greater) will be strongly encouraged to be seen at an urgent care or by their physician for further evaluation.

We don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but congratulations once again to Dawn Gregg, a member of the Providence Health Foundation Board of Directors! Dawn recently received the Ace Foundation’s “You Rock” award. This national award recognizes an Ace retailer who goes above and beyond, not only in their ability to raise funds for CMNH, but to inspire others.
The award comes with a $10,000 donation to the Beads of Courage program. Beads of Courage lets patients at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital cope with their illness by using beads as visible, tangible symbols of hospital-based experiences. Dawn, we’re happy others are learning what we’ve known for a long time: You Rock!

Please help us celebrate International Women's Day by celebrating the incredible women who lead our Providence ministries.
Providence’s heritage story begins with a group of strong and determined women, known as the Sisters of Providence, who embraced leadership roles to carry out our Mission of providing care to others. Fast forward 165 years and we still see women serving in many leadership positions across Providence.
For International Women’s Day, we asked some female leaders for their perspective on success and leadership. We'd love to hear from you, too. What female leaders have inspired you? Have you had a mentor who helped you get where you are today?
Help your kids spring back into sports safely.
Providence and St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute athletic trainer Scott Wardian kicks off our social media series explaining why it's important for your children to listen to their bodies this sports season.
We know many kids are excited to be participating in sports after a long hiatus. Scott reminds them to take it slow and find a healthy pace as they get back in the game.
Check back next Wednesday for more of Scott’s sports tips.

Being a team player means protecting your teammates. One of the best ways to do that is by wearing a mask to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Providence and @St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute athletic trainer Scott Wardian says it’s safe to wear a mask while working out.
“Your body will adapt to it,” Wardian says. “Really just try to be mindful of those around you.”
The CDC recommends that athletes wear a face covering over their nose and mouth and practice social distancing as much as possible. Coaches, sports staff, officials, parents, and other spectators should also wear masks.
If we all keep our eye on the ball, we can stop the spread of COVID-19.
Check back next Wednesday for more of Scott’s sports tips. To learn more about the how St. Luke’s athletic training services help athletes get back in the game visit http://provhealth.org/6182Hmlu4.
**UPDATE: All vaccine appointments have now been filled by people eligible to receive the vaccine in this phase. Thank you so much for sharing this opportunity with your friends and family members.**

We are so inspired by this little girl’s strength. Eight-year-old Allison is battling a rare form of cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital child life specialist Lea Thompson has been there for Allison since the start.
Providence child life specialists are important to families navigating the uncertainties and challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.
Thanks to 4 News Now for highlighting Allison’s perseverance and how her relationship with Lea helps her get through the hard days.

Young athletes can bring their ‘A game’ every day by following guidelines that help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Providence and St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute athletic trainer Scott Wardian says our new norm right now includes keeping supplies to yourself.
Don’t share water bottles or towels. You can share in the joy of big wins, but try not to share germs. Even when you're celebrating, avoid giving your teammate a high-five. Find other ways to celebrate each other.
Together, we can bench COVID-19.
Providence is proud to offer exceptional care, which includes recognizing that the closeness of a loved one is part of the healing journey.
As we see local cases of COVID-19 slowly drop, we remain vigilant against the virus. We know that it has been difficult to be in the hospital without friends and family.
As of Wednesday March 24, we are altering our visitor policy to allow one adult visitor a day per inpatient. We are also allowing two adults to be with laboring moms while they are in the hospital. The Children's Hospital policy remains the same with two adult visitors per inpatient child.
Please note we still cannot allow visitors for patients with COVID.
Please remember that all visitors who meet our restrictions will continue to be screened and must follow masking and safety rules. Visitors who exhibit cold/flu like symptoms or fever will be asked to return home.
Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center has the ulti-mutt security team.
Providence K9 Supervisor Pat McKenna and Sarge founded the program in 2019. At the time, they were the first and only hospital K9 security team in the state of Washington.
Not long after they started patrolling the halls of the hospital to keep patients and caregivers safe, K9 Dex and Officer Corey Anderson joined the team. Corey served as a Providence security officer prior to joining the K9 team.
Dex is a Belgian Malinois with a heart of gold and fondness for beef jerky.
Corey just became a certified instructor, which is an elite certification allowing him to teach other K9 handlers.
Please help us thank these good boys for their faithful service. You’ll want to sniff around on our social media Wednesday for a huge announcement!
It can be stressful when you're not feeling well on the weekend, but the doctor is always in at Providence. We offer care on your schedule, including weekends. Our Providence Urgent Care clinics in Spokane offer convenient care for most urgent health care needs. http://provhealth.org/6187HSssl
