Home Visits Help Identify 'Complex Needs,' but ACO Difficulties Persist
“The majority (80%) of Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) report using home visits for some patients with complex needs, according to new research published in Health Affairs. Larger, integrated ACOs were more likely to use home visits due to the high staffing costs associated with implementing a home visits program.
While ACOs report successfully using home visits to identify unmet social and clinical needs of complex patients, researchers found challenges addressing those needs persist. High implementation costs and reimbursement rules are also roadblocks to improving care.”

Scientists Identify Mechanism of Impaired Wound Healing in Diabetes
“It was found that local inhibition of Notch1 signaling markedly improved the wound healing in diabetic animals, but not in non-diabetic animals.
"Our results indicate that this is an attractive new target for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers," says corresponding author Sergiu Catrina, senior lecturer at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery at Karolinska Institutet. "Substances that affect this cellular signaling have already been developed for use in other diseases."
