From our residents to yours! One of the wonderful things to come out of this strange time is the support we have seen between senior living communities. Today, our Community Outreach Liaison, Kelli, enlisted the help of some of our AL residents to paint gourds for the residents of a neighboring AL community! We kinda had a GOURD time! 😉

In our Health Walk this week we’ll learn all about coffee—the history, the benefits, and uses of this energizing elixir!
Today, our Lifestyles team created and made door-to-door deliveries of whipped coffee—a delectable dessert-like concoction of delicious sweet coffee foam over iced milk. We also admired the beautiful espresso artwork created with the guidance of our Lifetsyles Assistant, Rachel, by several residents in memory care, assisted living, and long-term care.
And, the foam on the coffee? 🎙 We enjoyed all of this while being able to watch and listen (on our in-community CCTV 990) to the coffeehouse musical stylings of James Rojas live from the chapel! 🎷

🍂 Fall is in the air! With winter months approaching, we look to prepare for flu season. This past week we had flu shot clinics throughout the community. 💉
Our residents in healthcare received flu vaccines with the help of our nurses and partners at Auburn pharmacy. And yesterday, with organizational and check-in efforts from our Resident Council, our IL residents had the opportunity to get flu vaccines from our friends at Walgreen’s Pharmacy. We appreciate everyone’s help to be able to provide this important service to our residents right here at home! 🏡

A few more steps down Memory Lane and we find Marj. She delighted in telling us of the farm where she was raised and later lived with her husband and raised their five children. The 5 bedroom, 1 bath house was original to the farm, but she recounts, “Over several years, we put up all the other buildings.”

📚 Book Club! A few times a month our assisted living residents have the opportunity to distantly gather, read, and discuss a book THEY have chosen. Currently, they are reading A Man Called Ove and discussing a story of love, friendship, compassion, grief, and the importance of friends and community in coping with loss. Thanks to Rachel S. for starting this group promoting lifelong learning.

Thanks to our fabulous therapy director, Kate, and her team from Encore! Rehabilitation Services, we have offered both inpatient skilled nursing rehab as well as outpatient therapy throughout these past many months. Residents from IL, AL, Memory Support, and even long-term care have benefited from outpatient therapy offered onsite in the gym, or when needed, in their own apartment or room.

🇺🇸 Happy Veterans Day to all those who have given of themselves through military service to our country. Our annual celebration, like most things, looked different this year, but all Veterans had the opportunity to participate in a virtual and socially distant program thanking and honoring them. Our friends at Catholic Community Hospice provided certificates and cakes while Deacon Jim Lavin delivered inspirational words of gratitude via our CCTV system.
We also extend a heartfelt thank you for the beautiful cards a notes from the students of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish.
