Galloway Township Public Schools 16 hrs · OFFICIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENT: Dear Galloway School Community: I hope this letter finds you and your families healthy and managing as the pandemic continues to impact our educational and personal lives. With the first day of winter - the winter solstice - just fourteen days away and the holiday season in progress, I am writing to offer words of appreciation and provide an important district update. My gratitude to our faculty, administration, and support staff for the dedicated service you have provided since school opened on September 14th. Thanks to you, our Board of Education members and I are proud of being able to offer both virtual and hybrid instruction to students as we strive to support the varying needs and beliefs of our families. While there have been, and continue to be, challenging moments, we have persevered and, hopefully, learned some lessons during this time. Of course, our students and their families have done so much to make this all happen. Parents/Guardians selected a model that works for your children and family, assessed how it is going and in some cases made a change, and have worked as partners in the teaching and learning process. More than 1700 families responded to our survey which closed on December 2nd. We are now compiling and analyzing the results for the district as a whole as well as by school. With our region and entire State in the High Risk or "Orange" level, we have carefully reviewed the guidance the State provided for each level, and we are meeting all requirements for in-person learning during the High Risk level. Please note: -In the high/orange risk level, we are required to treat someone who has COVID-like symptoms the same as someone who is positive. -Because of this, there is additional contact tracing required and more staff and students being excluded from school (quarantined). -As you can imagine, this creates a greater need for substitutes, particularly for teachers; requires extensive work by our nurses, including evenings and weekends; creates changes in class or school in-person attendance situations that administrators need to manage; places hybrid students in totally virtual situations; and overall, places everincreasing pressure on the entire school system. -As you may know, we had to transition Arthur Rann School to all virtual for a week, a GTMS team of students to all virtual for two weeks, and classes at various schools to all virtual for up to fourteen days as well. Based on an assessment of the current situation and after consultation with the Atlantic County Departments of Education and Health, the following steps are being taken in our district: -Effective the week of December 14, 2020, all schools will transition to an all virtual setting for students. This will continue through January 15, 2021. Please note that this is only seven days' total that would have been in-person for each cohort of students. -All students in the hybrid model are reporting in-person as per the usual schedule this week. Although a family may be inclined to keep their children home, I urge you to have students attend this week. Teachers will be preparing them for the transition to all virtual, including distributing any materials they may need. -If your child is excluded from school for a COVID reason during this week, we will make separate arrangements with you. -Any individual classes and GTMS Team D that are all virtual this week, we will also make arrangements for you. More detailed information for families and expectations for staff will be provided this week. -In-person learning will tentatively begin again January 19th (Monday, January 18th is a federal holiday and schools are closed). -Note that returning to in-person is based on our region not moving into the Very High/Red status (guidance recommends all virtual at this level) and not having a situation in the High/Orange Risk level that does not allow us to properly manage inperson learning (e.g. too many excluded staff members and not enough substitutes). -Should the need arise, the all virtual learning will be further extended. I realize that this transition will displease some and will be applauded by others. It comes after a great deal of consideration and was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Know that I remain a strong advocate for in-person learning and the benefits it provides children academically and in terms of mental health and overall well-being. Additionally, we are planning enhancements to our hybrid model and will announce that information prior to the students' return. You are encouraged to tune-in to our December 14th Board of Education meeting, which will be held virtually (details forthcoming). I will discuss this transition, and there will be opportunities for public comment. As always, please contact me via email giaquintoa@gtps.k12.nj.us or at 609-748-1250, ext. 1016. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a clean house, but what if your home isn’t as spick-and-span as you thought it was? If your home was just built or undergoing remodeling, dust and debris can get everywhere, even when the contractor has cleaned up. Unless the HVAC system is not turned on and kept covered entirely during the entire construction process, that dirt and dust will make their way into your ductwork.
Even small fires that are contained quickly and extinguished can produce a large amount of smoke and residue that causes odors. If you look up and see a big chunk of ice on the bottom edge of your roof, you may have an ice dam. Despite the romantic image of icicles hanging off a roof in the winter, they indicate a problem. A well-made roof should have no icicles whatsoever, just a fluffy pile of snow at the edge. Ice dams left untreated may cause structural framing to decay, metal fasteners to corrode, and mold to form in the attic and the wall surfaces. Have ice damming water damage? Give us a call.

Spring is on the way, which means it's about time to freshen up the garden. 🪴 Before you bust out your gardening gloves, check out this tip to prevent root rot.
