Grateful for this Fall view at the Sojourn office!
Felt safety is necessary in relationships and in every area of life, especially when going through the process of healing from trauma.
In the words of Bessel Van Der Kolk “Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.”

Want better sleep? Try these tips...
Good sleep is so important in the healing process, and yet insomnia often accompanies mental health challenges. With improved sleep, our minds and bodies are better able to heal. Since this is Sleep Awareness month, we’d like to highlight the practices that have been shown to help us get better sleep. Experts call these practices “sleep hygiene” and our director, Beau Armistead, has put together a video highlighting some of these best practices. You can find a link to this YouTube video in our bio and learn more about how sleep affects our ability to process and heal and also more about good sleep hygiene.

PTSD and Sleep... Why sleep is so hard to come by and what to do about it.
Sleep hygiene is the term experts use to refer to the daily and nightly habits we put in place in order to sleep better. As more and more Americans experience insomnia and other sleep disorders, which in turn affect our daily lives, we need to take seriously these recommendations for sleep. From the sleep environment to pre-sleep routines to daytime activities, such as increasing exercise and reducing caffeine, there are many practices experts all agree can help us get a better night’s sleep. To see Sojourn’s director, Beau Armistead, talk about sleep hygiene and the importance of sleep in the healing process, follow the link in our bio to the Sojourn Counseling YouTube channel.
