Peripheral artery disease (PAD), also known as peripheral vascular disease (PVD), occurs when peripheral blood vessels are blocked, hardened and narrowed with plaque in a condition called atherosclerosis. This condition reduces the amount of blood that flows to your head, organs and limbs and increases the risk of a heart attack, stroke, and transient ischemic attack. Due to the restricted blood flow, peripheral artery disease increases your risk of infection in your limbs. In severe cases of peripheral artery disease, gangrene can occur. https://bit.ly/2EKnojl SOUTHERN-VASCULAR.COM Peripheral Artery Disease | Arterial Disease Treatment Montgomery, AL
Salt is one of the chemicals that attract water, enabling water to stay in the blood which helps maintain blood volume. However, if you ingest too much salt, more water will remain in your blood vessels, increasing your blood volume. Increased blood volume makes it harder for your heart to pump blood around your body. #saltyfood #vascularsystem

An aneurysm is a localized, balloon-like expansion in a blood vessel caused by weak vessel walls. The aorta is the artery that carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the legs. Compression therapies – whether it's from stockings, compression boots, or hydrostatic pressure (water) – have proven useful in improving blood flow. Veins have one-way valves that prevent the backflow of blood and support blood flow in one direction – from your extremities and organs back to your heart. #compressionstocking #bloodflow
Varicose veins are the result of diseased veins with weakened walls and valves. These weaknesses in the veins may be congenital or may occur as a result of precipitating events or lifestyle habits. When veins are not functioning properly, they fail to return blood to the heart efficiently, and the blood begins to pool. This condition is known as venous insufficiency. When damaged valves are unable to keep blood moving in the proper direction, a backflow results; this condition is referred to as venous reflux. https://bit.ly/2QJttiE SOUTHERN-VASCULAR.COM Varicose Vein Treatment Montgomery | Vascular Specialist Montgomery AL
