Steve Yu, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with three decades of experience. At his full-service OB/GYN practice in Gaithersburg, Maryland, he provides complete gynecological and obstetric care for women of all ages in communities throughout the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
Dr. Yu is dedicated to delivering current expertise and exceptional skill in the full spectrum of health and medical issues that women face. Besides offering routine preventive care and cancer screenings, he’s highly experienced at diagnosing and addressing a variety of gynecological problems, including Pap smear abnormalities, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and sexually transmitted diseases.
He also provides comprehensive prenatal care in both routine and high-risk pregnancies and has extensive experience with vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC). He works closely with an area perinatologist for various high-risk obstetric conditions including multiples, obesity, genetic disorders, and congenital defects.
Dr. Yu understands that gynecological care is a very personal experience and that choosing the right provider is one of the most important decisions any woman can make. He’s known for his expertise and caring bedside manner, which patients say makes them feel more comfortable during exams and routine checkups.
After receiving his medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine-Lubbock in 1988, Dr. Yu went on to complete his residency in gynecology at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York City. He completed training for advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1991.
He spent eight years as a clinical instructor in high-risk obstetrics at Prince George Hospital, in a program that’s affiliated with the high-risk perinatologist program at John Hopkins University.
In addition to being certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Yu is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He’s also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
He’s currently affiliated with Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Maryland, Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax County, Virginia, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, Maryland.
