Erin Sheets, RN was presented with a “Great Catch” award for being quick to identify the symptoms of a stroke; her keen assessment skills made a tremendous effect on the outcome of a patient. Erin has been with St. Joseph Medical Center in the Emergency Department, for a year, and came to us as a new graduate nurse. September is Women in Medicine Month!
Elizabeth Blackwell was the first women in the United States to earn a medical degree in 1849 and opened her own medical college for women. She and her sister, Emily Blackwell, who was also a physician, trained nurses for Union hospitals during the Civil War. This Women in Medicine Month we remember Dr. Blackwell’s courage and determination to improve healthcare delivery and access.

Have you made your appointment to get your flu shot? Flu vaccination is especially important for those with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and COPD. Flu shots are recommended for everyone age 6 months and older, with rare exceptions. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in your body and provide protection against the flu. The CDC recommends that you get your flu shot by the end of October. Talk to your primary care provider if you have questions regarding the flu shot.

St. Joseph Medical Center is looking for Patient Diet Aides. In this position you will be responsible for putting together meals for your patients. This position involves answering phones, taking patient orders, following diet cards and creating food trays. Not sure about specific diets… we are happy to teach you.
