We’ve been celebrating the fall with fun fall activities! Residents created Autumn Wreath’s, enjoyed hot apple cider and a special autumn treat of pumpkin pie ice cream and apple pie ice cream! As we head into October, residents will be enjoying a special Autumn Happy Hour w/ Music by Adam, make scented autumn satchels, create colorful painted autumn tree’s and more! Happy Fall!

Sunharbor Manor hosted a special ceremony on June 25th for its employees to join together in an expression of unity and reflection. The afternoon was dedicated in commemoration of those who passed and in support of all those impacted as a result of the pandemic. The event also placed special focus on the many cases the team supported and cured through this time.
Participants from the staff enjoyed frozen drinks and supportive talks by facility leaders followed by a beautiful butterfly release representing everlasting life. Some of these butterflies have enjoyed the newly adorned back yard garden which we hope will be enjoyed by resident families when visitation is once again allowed.
Today is National Apple Day! We are serving fresh baked Apple Cobbler this afternoon along with a few facts about the common apple! Happy Apple Day!

A big thank you to 13 y.o Hailey Richman, founder of Kid Caregivers and Exeutive Director of Puzzles to Remember and Max Wallack, founder of Puzzles to Remember for their generous donation of jigsaw puzzles for our Alzheimer’s residents! Experiencing Alzheimer’s first hand in their own family, Hailey and Max have developed “Puzzles to Remember”, an organization that provides puzzles to nursing homes and other facilities that care for Alzheimer’s patients. Since 2008, they have donated over 100,000 puzzles to 5,100 facilities around the world! They believe working with puzzles helps slow the progression of this disease. Thank you Hailey and Max for your generous donation!
Today is World Kindness Day! Kindness cards were posted for all to take and share. Residents created their own kindness cards to keep or give to their friends.

Life Scout James Bodendorf of Boy Scout Troop # 123 in Marrick, NY will be creating “Cheer Me Up” care packages for the residents of Sunharbor Manor as part of his Eagle Scout project, but he needs your help this holiday season! Join us in our holiday fundraiser and help James reach his goal of $1,200!!
Residents have been enjoying our small group programs while maintaining social distance. From Trivia Challenge to Morning Stretch to Art Workshop: Autumn Mixed Media, they enjoy coming together once again!

Santa visited Sunharbor Manor with greetings, gifts and treats! Santa’s Helper helped deliver special gifts donated by “Better Together Only”, “Moms of Preschoolers New Hyde Park Baptist Church” and Cookies by “Diane’s Bakery”! Special Holiday cupcakes were served and live Holiday Music was played for all!

Residents engaged in a one to one art program: “Winter Art Workshop: Snowflake Paintings in Negative Space”. Using the “negative space” technique, residents painted around and between wooden and foam snowflakes on canvas to create the illusion of a winter snow scene!
Residents created Wishing Dolls today! After writing their hope for the New Year, their written wishes were intertwined within the handmade doll and sealed for the New Year with hope to come!
A big Thank You to Boy Scout James Bodendorf of Troop 123 in Merrick, NY for raising over $2,700 for his Eagle Scout Project “Cheer Me Up Care Packages” for the residents of Sunharbor Manor! James created 60 care packages for our residents! Thank you James and great work!!
In support of American Heart Month, staff wore RED to raise awareness about the devastating effects of heart disease in women. Today is National Wear Red Day! Go Red!!

Valentine’s Day is approaching! Residents are creating special Valentine’s crafts this week!
Residents were treated to an early Valentine’s surprise from Balloons By Brittany! Brittany created an adopt-a-grandparent fundraiser where she raised enough to donate 250 Valentines Balloons to all our residents, along with an abundance of homemade Valentine’s Cards from local Girl Scout Troops! Thank you Brittany!!
Sunharbor celebrated Carnival and Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday! Residents enjoyed a special themed Mardi Gras cake, masks, beads and live Mardi Gras musical stroll by Stuart! Carnaval and Mardi Gras activities were held throughout the week, including televised parades, history and facts, and the opportunity to create their own masks!
