October is Mental Health Month. We will focus on Tuning In. What does that mean? It means being present! It means being aware of what is happening within you, and in the world around you. Being present by tuning in has been shown to build self awareness, help make affective choices, reduce the impact of worry, and build positive connections.

Our brain is the most important organ in our body. But as we age, while we talk a lot about our skin and heart health, we don’t often think about the thing that allows us to “think” in the first place. Although your brain is an organ, think of it like a muscle. We have some control over how we train our brain. If we exercise it regularly, it will be stronger as we age. Thinking new thoughts is the best way to keep your brain healthy. Establish new neural pathways by changing up your routine. 🧠❣️ #BrainHealth #HealthyAging

We practice a person-centered approach here at Tabor Hills. This is all about focusing on the needs, wants, desires, and goals of the individual, rather than having a blanket approach to nursing care for everyone. This is about listening to the resident’s definition of their health and what they need, and then providing that for them. #ACampusOfCaring
The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need for proper handwashing techniques. Earlier this month was Global Handwashing Day, which has been an opportunity to demonstrate the value of clean hands, since 2008 when it was first recognized. This year‘s theme was “Hand Hygiene For All, emphasizing the importance of good hand hygiene for all in order to create a healthier future. 👏🏼🧼

Yesterday, residents and staff enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves to receive their COVID-19 vaccine!
Less than a year ago, we, like many other Senior Living Campuses across the nation, stood at the precipice of this virus. We wore our masks, kept our distance, and washed our hands in addition to conducting testing, following federal, state, and local guidance and reinventing all our procedures, all while waiting for news of an effective vaccine.
Our team jumped in and handled all the aspects of gaining consents and organizing the clinic day with CVS Pharmacy. Residents received their vaccines (and one even smiled for a photo op). Our CEO Frances Salinas and Executive Administrator Tony Harvat also posed for a photo post-shot, along with many other staff including CNAs, Nurses, and Administrative Staff.
We truly cannot contain our gratefulness to have taken this first step towards a more improved future for our residents and our #CampusOfCaring!
Everything we do is driven by our mission and values, to enhance the lives of older adults and treat everyone as a member of our Campus of Caring! ❣️
Are you trying to lower your bad cholesterol this year? To get started avoid foods high in saturated and trans fats. Opt instead for foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, like walnuts, salmon, mackerel, and flaxseeds. It also helps to increase your soluble fiber intake. That helps absorb cholesterol from the bloodstream and eliminate it from the body. You can find it in oatmeal, berries, vegetables and kidney beans.
