I was just at CVS on College Hills and the pharmacist ( my buddy 🤣) and his team asked me to explain the difference between the Libre 14 day CGM and the NEW Libre2 CGM. They then asked me about the Dexcom G6 since they now carry those sensors too. I was so very excited they asked and were interested 😂👍 This will only serve to help you all when ordering your supplies. Hopefully they will be accurate on the orders having more knowledge. It’s easy to mix them up and dispense the wrong sensors. TIP: Always check your boxes for accuracy before leaving the pharmacy! 👍. Blessing to you all!

Looking back, I remember being told my eyes "were in trouble" maybe 2 years earlier (2012). It was probably then I should have heard the alarm bells and done something... But I didn't! I spent a lot of money on Eye laser to correct rogue blood vessels that were silently sending me blind... Sure, I could blame the Health-care system for not helping me more. The simple suggestions of "why don't you spend your money on CGM instead of Laser" would have been great! I never noticed my vision deteriorate...I came to accept that my eye would bleed every other week. I remember closing my right eye in order to see better out of my left eye when my right eye was murky and full of blood! Yet I still didn't think that I could do anything about it... I felt powerless... I accepted the fact that I was going lose my sight. I started making sure I wore hearing protection all the time at work so I was confident I would be able to hear my kids growing up if in fact i would not be able to see them growing up. I was lost with a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful very young boys. My younger sister who is also a T1D (likewise my older sister....yes that's correct all 3 O.G Sharkey kids have T1D!) Anyway Ali Sharkey told me a story about a Racecar driver (I love motorsport) by the name of Jack Perkins who is also a Diabetic . She mentioned he was getting his blood glucose sent to his phone via some form pixie dust and fairy magic.... THIS conversation with lil sis is what sent me down the Rabbit hole of what I now call CGM!! A quick Google search of this Pixie/fairy/CGM nonsense lead me to ordering a single flash glucose sensor. I was immediately addicted to the data that I was seeing. I then became very interested in how I could manipulate this data. I tried...I succeeded... I failed... there was NO real consistency. This was around the time time someone on a social media platform suggested I read up on SUGAR SURFING. I'm not much of a reader... yet I simply could not stop reading the book. Everything I had been told about managing Diabetes started to make sense my CGM lines became exceptionally flat, less erratic and with in my desired range. For the first time in my diabetic life I was dominant. I was EMPOWERED!!! I had BASAL neutrality. I had great carb ratios. I had perfect correction doses. Everything had fallen into place and I was no longer a slave to the Diabetic Beast! It is now 2020 almost 3 years since I had my eye surgery. I haven't had any further problems with my eyes since I started Sugar Surfing. Aswell as wearing ear plugs to protect my hearing and Safety glasses to protect my eyes...I now also wear CGM and Sugar Surf 24/7 to protect my body against all things Diabetes. If it wasn't for my now great mates Dr Stephen Ponder and Kevin McMahon I may very well be typing a different story and reading it back to myself in Braille. Let sit for at least 30 minutes. •Dump bag of chicken and marinade into large pan over medium heat. Cook until almost fully cooked* •Add chopped broccoli to pan, cover and cook until broccoli is cooked to desired tenderness (it was at this time that I added a few orange slices for some more flavor!) *fully cooked chicken has no pink color and an internal temp of 165

The value of Telehealth visits with select Registered Dietitian Nutritionists cannot be overstated! In April of 2020, our Medicare beneficiaries were given LONG OVERDUE benefits to be able to receive medical nutrition therapy and treatment without forcing them to come into the office/facility in person! COVID-19 EXPOSED what Registered Dietitians in medical nutrition practice had been saying all along! Expansion of benefits for more medical conditions is NEXT! ( Currently the benefits are limited mostly to diabetes and kidney disease). This population is widely diverse in not only age (62 to 100+), but in education, technology access, physical abilities, and access to professional care. They’ve needed the option for care via phone and/or by computer for decades. As a diabetes specialist and medical nutrition expert, I can tell you the countless amount of hours upon hours I have devoted to caring for my Medicare population without a shred of reimbursement/payment by Medicare. Phone calls and emails at all hours of the day and night. Let’s not overlook weekends and every single holiday. Hey! I’m not complaining! I signed up for this! I’ll take care of whatever/whomever needs to be taken care of. People are not just sick between Monday and Friday 8-5. But the cards have been stacked against us RDNs for far too long. The Medicare population has suffered for far too long as well. I’m extremely grateful for the Trump administration in this area. The area of seeing the truth for what it is! Slashing the prices of insulin and tabling the patents of Diabetes technology that caused needed products from getting to our patients. I cannot say thank you enough for stepping in with executive orders! I believe our Medicare beneficiaries have been jilted for far too long of the benefits they have and are continuing to earn! I look around in my community and see a tremendous amount of Medicare beneficiaries still working and volunteering, tired but still showing up to help local charity efforts and raising grandchildren. They MORE THAN deserve and have earned the right for covered benefits to keep and stay well through medical nutrition therapy! My tip: freeze half of what you cooked, put it in a freezer bag and freeze until you want it again! I do this with at least one meal a week. Once you get into the swing of preparing weekly meals you always have one meal you “don’t need to cook” and can just reheat! I didn’t even thaw this overnight- ran it under hot water for a minute and broke it up. Will boil Dreamfields pasta and we will a quick, healthy dinner !

I will try to explain this: When a drug has been out for 20 years, the patent for brand pricing ( high cost pricing ) expires and the drug price drops dramatically because it goes to the generic category. So here are some facts to ponder: Humalog/Novolog/Lantus insulins have been on the market for well over 25 years!! Still considered brand name and prices have increased from 95$ a bottle in 2004 to 660$ a bottle in 2020. Supply and demand rules do not follow either! This insulin is less than 6$ a bottle. CMS changed their coding for payment of services registered dietitians receive for assisting our Medicare population with kidney disease. HOWEVER. What they claim to have put into place DOES NOT WORK and has resulted in rejected/unpaid claims to RDNs across TEXAS and the entire US! We (RDNs) do an incredible job improving the health of those with kidney disease and are directly responsible for saving taxpayers dollars in this enormously expensive area of treatment. The quality of life for these people suffering from chronic kidney disease/failure is greatly impacted by our services. TO DATE: It has been since October 1, 2020 that we have remained unpaid for these services! We are told by CMS to wait until APRIL and maybe we will be paid. IN GOOD FAITH WE ARE STILL SEEING OUR PATIENTS BUT WITHOUT ANY PAYMENT. Many are having to turn patients away for lack of funding in efforts to keep their practices going. This is heartbreaking for our Medicare population to go without these essential services. This is heartbreaking to see our CMS treating RDNs this way! Today was insulin pump day. Back to back, non stop, insulin pumps and CGMs . This technology is fantastic but still takes a lot of education and practice. I’m just so proud of my pumpers! 👏😊. No two are alike! So unique!
