We've been getting lots of calls about our post yesterday! Lots of our guests are worried we may be moving too far- and may not have caught our new location in the video. Our future location will only be 3 blocks from our current location. By car, it's about one minute... maybe more if you have to wait for the traffic light. Check out this short clip that will show you exactly where we will be in late 2021- 103 N. Howard!

Cali came in today for her annual exam and vaccines. Exams are important for cats, too! Cats are experts at hiding illness and injury, so annual checkups are a must. Don't forget Tampa Vet offers $5 new patient exams for dogs and cats that we've not had the pleasure of seeing. Schedule your cat's exam today.
This little guy needs to find his way home. A good Samaritan brought him by today to check for a microchip. Sadly he doesn't have one. Male, neutered terrier mix, perhaps some poodle. Found near Himes and Cypress. We have learned that this pet is now at the HSTB.
Almost any pet can be troubled by allergies. Dr. Webster saw both of these pets today for watery eyes- and Tito had been licking at his paws- a common sign of a potential allergy. Itching, scratching and licking are all behaviors common to pruritus- or itchy skin. If left unchecked, bigger problems can arise. If your pet is going crazy with itching or scratching- give us a call- we can help.

If you're superstitious, you may think black cats are unlucky. There's lots of theories as to how black cats became wrapped in the web of tales tied to bad luck. Of course, black cats are not unlucky- that's fiction. What's fact? Only about 40% of cats visit the veterinarian every year. Cats are experts at hiding illness and injury, which is why it's so important to make sure they see their veterinarian on an annual basis. Pablo came in today and saw Dr. Webster- and says that it's not luck that he's in great shape for a 3 year old.
Halloween is almost here! Whether you're planning on staying in to pass out candy- or you're going out with the kids and the pups to collect the sugar-laden goods, it's important to remember that Halloween can be a scary and potentially dangerous time for your pets. Today was a big day at the jobsite- with the slab getting poured. A stretch of good weather will help get the project back on track following last week's heavy rains! Steel has arrived, and we expect to see the steel start going up within the next 2 weeks!
DOG FOOD RECALL: We're not familiar with this brand- but this product is distributed here in Florida. Albright's Raw Dog Food has issued a voluntary recall on 67 cases of their chicken recipe due to possible salmonella contamination. For the full recall statement by the FDA follow the link: https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/albrights-raw-dog-food-recalls-chicken-recipe-dogs-because-possible-salmonella-health-risk
Nelly- a Leopard Gecko presented today with Dysecdysis- which is a fancy word for retained shed. When reptiles don't shed all of their skin properly, it can become a serious problem. There's lots of potential reasons this can happen- but fortunately- in most cases it is easily treated.
What's the water quality like at the local dog beaches? Unfortunately, the next results won't be posted until next week. While the most recent results shared by the Florida Department of Health were good, it is likely that Tropical Storm Eta has fouled the water quality. If you choose to go to the dog beach, we suggest avoiding the water until the next round of water quality reports are issued on 11/16. We'll post those on our beach report page when we have them. https://www.tampavet.com/DrWebsters-Blog/beach-report/ TAMPAVET.COM Weekly Beach Report - Tampa Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Kleinman finished up the vaccines for Niles and Oakley- two 16-week old Weimaraner pups. Nicknamed by some as the "Grey Ghost", the Weimaraner was originally bred by a German Duke in the 1800's. The Duke was an avid sportsman and it is thought that he sought to breed the perfect hunting dog by crossing Bloodhounds with various German and French hunting dogs. The Weimar Pointer didn't make it to the United States in significant numbers until the 1920's and quickly grew in popularity in the 1950's when President Dwight D. Eisenhower welcomed his Weimaraner, Heidi to the White House.
We hope that everyone has made it through Tropical Storm Eta safely! The storm dumped several inches of rain across the Tampa Bay area- and has caused flooding in many locations. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can spread heartworm disease. Now is a good time to check your pet's supply of heartworm prevention, as it is likely that the mosquito population will explode over the coming weeks. To learn more about heartworms- and how to protect your pet against this potentially fatal disease, check out Dr. Webster's blog: https://www.tampavet.com/DrWebsters-Blog/need-know-heartworm-disease-dogs/
Lots of folks arriving in town for the big game- but not everyone is here to watch the game. This is Doc, who visited with Dr. Abercrombie today to check out a possible ear infection. Doc is a part of the massive security force protecting the fans and residents of Tampa. Thanks for keeping us all safe Doc!
A good Samaritan brought this little girl to us to check for a microchip. Unfortunately, one was not found. She was found yesterday near East Bay Raceway. Female Rat Terrier. The good samaritan still has her, but can't keep her. Please share so we can help this girl find her way home. This pup has already been posted on the Lost and Found Pets of HC page by the good samaritan.

There are so many events taking place around Tampa Bay as we head into this weekend's big game. Here's one that we hope you will support. Sierra Delta is a national organization that helps our veterans connect with resources for dog training. This is a terrific organization that helps countless veterans throughout the country. For more information and how to get involved- please visit their website at www.sierradelta.com THE NEW BARKER January 22 at 1:19 PM ยท We are so honored to have been invited to participate in the Salute-to-Service Stroll on Saturday morning, February 6 in Tampa to help bring more awareness to our veterans in need. And, we've been asked to invite you and your dogs to join us. We'll meet outside Ulele at 9a to stroll The Tampa Riverwalk with wounded veterans and their service dogs along with NFL and MLB stars, and celebs. Here's a little backstory on why we feel this is such an important event. For the last nine Super Bowls, a team of Wounded Warrior Amputees has taken on a team of NFL Alumni in a flag football game to raise awareness for our nationโ€™s Veterans. Unfortunately, the Tampa Super Bowl 55 Wounded Warrior game and tribute have been canceled due to covid-19. However, we still need to call attention to caring for Veterans and their need for service dogs, or as Sierra Delta calls them, Life Buddies. Forget everything you've heard about service dogs and come out to meet the veterans. Hear how their Life Buddies have changed their lives. It's just a stroll around the Riverwalk with some extraordinary people like BJ Ganem, founder of Sierra Delta. It could just change your life as well. THE NEW BARKER will be providing goody bags to the first who arrive, while supplies last. We will also be awarding prizes to the most patriotically-dressed dogs. C'mon out and join us. It'll be a great way to kickoff Super Bowl weekend. #TampaBayDogLovers #DogLovers #TampaDogs #FriendsOfDavisIslandsDogParks #TheNewBarkerDogMagazine #DogFriendlyFlorida #FloridaDogFriendly #ServiceDogs #WoundedWarriors #ServiceDogsForVeterans #TheArtOfDog
Sad news to report... The world's tallest dog, a Great Dane named Freddy has passed away at 8 years old. He lived in Great Britain, and stood 3' 4" tall- as measured to the tallest point on his back.
