How much should you be feeding your cat? Dr. Taylor says there are a few factors to consider, the quality of food and your cats weight to name a couple. For the average 10 lb adult cat though, it should be 1/2-3/4 cup of food a day! This was quite a shock for our patient Jasmine here. 🙀 It doesn’t take long for an indoor cat to become overweight, using a measuring cup to dish out your cat’s food may help keep him/her happy and healthy! 💕

So the last time Mable went to the groomer she literally lost her mind, screaming, tried to bite, nervous peed and pooped. This was the second time she did this, if I was the groomer I would have said no thanks, but Jenny at Fur Babies Salon said she would not give up on her. Our awesome vets at Taylor Animal Hospital of Parkville gave Mable some trazodone and today she did amazing! She’s very timid for some reason, but she’s slowly coming out of her shell. We highly recommend both of these establishments for your pets!

Dr. Kara Ballenger has been in private practice, working primarily with dogs and cats, since graduating from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. A native of the Northland, she grew up in Weatherby Lake, and returned to the area once she completed her undergraduate and graduate coursework at MU. She enjoys all aspects of being a small animal veterinarian, especially preventative care and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Ballenger strives to provide resources to educate pet parents and works to achieve treatment plans that best fit the pet and their family.
In her spare time, Dr. Ballenger and her husband, Mike, enjoy being involved with St. Therese School and Parish, where their children attend, and supporting them in all of their various extracurricular activities. As a family, they enjoy cheering for Mizzou, traveling, and working on their home in rural Smithville.

Let's talk about Microchips! 🐾 Microchipping is a safe, permanent way to identify your pets. This tiny device is placed just under the loose skin at the back of the neck. When a lost dog or cat is found, a veterinarian or veterinary technician will use a handheld microchip scanner to check for a chip. If the pet has one, it will transmit its ID number to the scanner via a low-frequency radio wave. The veterinary hospital or shelter then calls the chip manufacturer, retrieves the pet owner’s contact information and calls you. Lost pet found!
