Rabbi Yosef Orenstein from Valley Chabad, helped us celebrate and appreciate the meaning of, Rosh Hashanah. A beautiful service ushering in the year, 5781. After, we shared Challah bread, apples slices with honey, happy memories, conversation, and a rich sense of community.
Happy New Year! Celebrating with deeper appreciation, life’s simplest and sweetest blessings.

A spiritual double header at Allendale today. Catholic mass in the Nursing Home. Attendance limited to 10 with social distancing. We gratefully welcomed back, Rev. Don Sheehan (pastor of Allendale’s Church of the Guardian Angel) who, after a beautiful mass, visited with members of our Nursing Home community. Special thanks also to Rabbi Yosef Orenstein of Valley Chabad, in Wyckoff who truly brought the celebration of Sukkot to our Atrium community via his customized truck! All enjoyed his talk on the symbols, meaning and relevance of this autumnal Jewish holiday- sharing prayers, songs and beloved holiday traditions.
Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh my! Interested residents safely enjoyed a classic matinee feature, The Wizard of Oz. Vintage replications of the 1939 premiere’s original invites, poster art and what was left of an unlucky witch were all part of the fun.
Students from Immaculate Heart Academy dropped off sumptuous platters of home baked goods for our residents along with hand made handkerchiefs and a beautiful note of support. Recalling comforting memories of warm, home baked cookies at Grandma’s, and her hand embroidered items from a gentler era, these students paid it forward in a lovely butterfly themed presentation. The butterfly we learn, symbolizes endurance and hope. A welcome message for all living through today’s pandemic. Our Allendale community members were deeply touched by this thoughtful and very unexpected gesture of kindness. Thank you!
Hats Off To All Our Honored Vets! Each hat tells a story of character and sacrifice.
The Allendale Community For Senior Living salutes and celebrates all our Veterans. We remain forever in their debt!
Thanksgiving “ala carte” began mid morning here at Allendale with our rolling harvest brunch and snack carts visiting every resident in our Atrium, Carlton Court and Nursing Home communities. Activity team members made room to room visits offering warm, Thanksgiving greetings and a hearty offering of assorted bagels, apples, tangerines, cheese, crackers, red grapes, assorted muffins and apple cider. Most of all, in such challenging times, we together shared a sense of community and thankfulness. The Activities team happily manned the Ipads all day facilitating lots of virtual family visits, and holiday celebrating via FaceTime and Zoom calls. Again, we give thanks and wish everyone and their families a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving!
Today and always, we are thankful for our residents, families, dedicated care team and staff. Wishing all a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Last evening, led by a resident, we again lit the Menora, observing the second night of Hannukah. A history of Hannukah was shared with the residents. The first day of Hannukah included room to room visits with potato pancakes and apple sauce (or sour cream). Daily activities for the next 6 days include Hannukah trivia, word search, special treats of gelt, macaroons, rugelach, a holiday crossword and a word game for the “Festival of Lights”.
This year, our greatest gift is gratitude. We thank our extraordinary interdisciplinary Care Team: Our Medical Director, Attending Physician, Nursing, Rehab, Dietary, Activities, Admissions, as well as Housekeeping, Operations, Business Administration and support staff. We especially thank our community residents, families and friends for countless acts of love, dedication and sacrifice. Your selflessness has made all the difference. We remain deeply grateful and ever vigilant. Wishing all a Joyful Holiday Season and a safe, Happy and Healthy 2021!
Our Room to Room, “Christmas Carts” are bringing holiday cheer to our Atrium, Nursing Home and Carlton Court residents, serving hot cocoa, treats and holiday music.
Lo How A Rose E’re Bloometh...or in this case, our radiant Amaryllis. Standing tall. Also known as “The Christmas Lily” - it symbolizes strength, determination, beauty and love. Fitting themes for our community as we await Christmas, and look forward with faith, hope and continued vigilance to a new year. (Photo taken in window gardening alcove of our Atrium activity center)
The Allendale Community wants to thank Rabbi Yosef Orenstein from Valley Chabad for his years of spiritual support. This Chanukah, Rabbi Yosef explained the meaning of Chanukah virtually, producing and posting a video for our community on YouTube. Residents also enjoyed our Hanukkah newsletter offering interesting stories appropriate to the season. https://youtu.be/QloFxJrfLmk
Wishing all a very Merry Christmas!
Last night, “Secret Santa” presents were placed beneath the tree. Today, these gifts and more will be presented to our Nursing Home residents by our team of loving elves. ❤️🎄🌲

Today, Allendale Nursing Home resident, Sylvia Goldsholl, celebrated her 109th birthday! Sylvia, who earlier this year made headlines as the world’s 2nd oldest COVID-19 survivor, enjoyed a morning FT call from Allendale Mayor, Ari Bernstein who congratulated Sylvia and offered heartfelt praise for her intrepid spirit and unique character. Sylvia, as always agreed, giving full credit to her beloved mom and pop for her wonderful personality and life. Happy Birthday Sylvia! ❤️🎂🧁
Our room service carts are ushering out the Christmas season with a tradition brought from France to New Orleans in 1870. The galette des rois, or “King Cake”, celebrates Epiphany, the day the Three Kings visited the infant Jesus. An oval-shaped bakery delicacy, it’s a cross between a coffee cake and a French pastry that is as rich in history as it is in flavor. It’s decorated in royal colors of PURPLE which signifies “Justice”, GREEN for “Faith” and GOLD for “Power”. These colors were chosen to resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited the Christ child on Epiphany. As much pastry as party, the King Cake traditionally has hidden within it, a fete, a surprise trinket, porcelain baby, bean or such. Whoever gets the slice with the surprise earns the crown and is dubbed King or Queen for the day! We are skipping this hidden treat practice today and acknowledging all our residents as royalty worthy of our continued love and dedication! May all of us be blessed with the light of love and the purity of a child’s heart! ❤️
Honoring a voice of reason, courage and truth.
This is National Activity Professionals Week! The nation honors and celebrates the selfless efforts of Activity Professionals. Our professional Activity team’s role of enriching resident lives has never been more important or challenging as during this pandemic. Here at Allendale, we are working to enrich the life of every resident: mind, body and spirit. We have a full agenda this week, each day highlighting person-centered, COVID protocol compliant, activities that bring to life and pleasure to community living. Today, we witnessed our team of healthcare professionals doing what they do best: protecting and caring for those in their care. This was vaccination day at our Nursing Home community. Consenting residents and employees received their first inoculation against COVID-19. So proud of our Nursing team for today’s exceptionally well-planned and smoothly executed program. All department heads were on hand this Saturday, working as a team to make this an easy experience for all. Special thanks to the wonderful team from Walgreens for their partnership in this initiative. Congratulations to our residents and staff on a truly positive effort. One step closer to better days!
Happy Groundhog Day! No way that groundhog Phil would see his shadow today. With record snowfall it looks like 6 more weeks of winter. (Let’s still hope for an early Spring.) GOOGLE.COM Groundhog Day 1993 film - Google Search
