Such joy bringing families and residents back together for in person, outdoor visits. Thank you Barry Simms WBAL for capturing the moment as we create smiles. https://www.wbaltv.com/article/coronavirus-some-nursing-homes-help-reconnect-visitors-loved-ones-maryland/34124522 WBALTV.COM Some nursing homes get creative to reconnect visitors with loved ones amid pandemic
Paint night always showcases the creativity of residents. Using acrylic paints, buttons and gemstone stickers, beautiful canvases were created as a tribute to the end of summer.
It was great to welcome back to the community the duo of Frank and Trish. Frank and Trish have been sending us videos to enjoy throughout the quarantine but it was nice to finally see them in person. The duo has been coming to Augsburg for years playing a variety of music for residents to enjoy – from Sinatra to disco and beyond.
We recently had another resident-led art class. This time we used watercolors and an unusual medium, plastic wrap. The paintings were cut out to create coasters that double as magnets. We are always grateful when residents take time to share their talents with their neighbors.
We recently held a new class called Shintaido, an expressive and meditative movement art for wellness and integration of body, mind and spirit. The art draws upon holistic health and mindfulness practices from Japanese spiritual and martial traditions in ways that cultivate wellbeing and a sense of connection to others and to the earth. This was lead by a resident's son. He spent 12 years in Japan and has 30 years of experience teaching.
We celebrated "Just Because Day". We handed out gift bags filled with goodies, an Augsburg crossword puzzle, an inspirational bookmark and a few jokes 'just because'.

Pumpkin painting is a yearly tradition at Augsburg. Residents look forward to creating long lasting displays for their homes and outside their doors. Painting instead of carving means the pumpkins can be enjoyed the entire season.
Santa’s elves have been busy getting our community decorated for the Christmas season. ConnectedLiving coordinator Kathy Deuerling is one of our most talented decorators and brings a wealth of creativity to every project she touches. Our skilled nursing residents get to enjoy her beautiful trees, with ornaments handmade by Kathy! She exemplifies the spirit of Christmas each and every day, and we are grateful for her all through the year.
We love our team members at The Village at Augsburg! As a small token of our appreciation, for their hard work and dedication, each team member received a sweet potato pie to add to their Thanksgiving dessert table. Thanks for all you do.
Our Skilled Nursing residents shared their special family recipes and wonderful Thanksgiving memories with our ConnectedLiving team. The team worked tirelessly to put them all together to create the Skilled Nursing “Recipes Full with Memories” cookbook. Residents were very happy to receive their recipe book and reminisce with friends and team members. Happy Thanksgiving!
Get your hot/cold beverage here! Independent Living residents welcomed our Traveling Thanksgiving Beverage cart offering Hot Toddy, Hot Cider, Wine, Natty Boh beer, soda and a few snack options. The residents loved the idea and appreciated the Pre-Thanksgiving indulgence
As we head into Thanksgiving, we would like to express our gratitude for you and your continued support of NLCS, our communities and those we serve. During the rush of holiday shopping, we hope you will consider a donation for #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media. This year, with your help, we can make a difference in the lives of residents at The Village at Augsburg! https://donate.givedirect.org/?cid=945
Our residents stay mentally and physically fit by participating in our twice weekly yoga classes taught by Chris Sakowski. Thanks Chris!
Stretch – 2 - 3 – 4! Staying active was on the minds of the many residents who participated in our hallway aerobics activity. They walked the halls, stopping to do arm raises, stretches and more. Afterward, the participants enjoyed a delicious and refreshing strawberry banana smoothie.
Tasty art! Our residents made beautifully delicious ‘fried snowflakes’ using snowflake-shaped tortillas fried in oil and dusted with powdered sugar. Yummy!
Check out the ingenuity of our residents and their family. A resident’s family came to celebrate his 93rd birthday and created a pulley system to hoist gifts up to his 2nd-floor balcony. The family even decorated the tree below to make the event more festive. Happy Birthday!
Back by popular demand, our Dining DIrector, Rob Wolfe, hosted another cooking demonstration. He taught us how to make the perfect cream of crab soup. Take our word for it - it was delicious! Rob plans to share his recipes, cooking tips and comedic talent with our residents during his monthly “Chef Center Stage” events. We’re already looking forward to next month.
We have many nature enthusiasts at Augsburg and they were very happy to participate in our latest resident activity - painting a cardinal. As you can see, we have very talented residents.
