There are a lot of myths about hip replacement and one of the biggest is that after surgery you will have to be laid up for a substantial amount of time. That is a total myth! Patients are able and encouraged to walk or climb stairs the same day. Early and regular walks help to build muscles and reduce the chances of blood clots forming. Some patients are able to stop using walkers and canes in just a few weeks. Watch this patient walking great two hours after surgery and even better one week later! Can Traction Treatment Help You? Traction is a technique that is done by certain certified chiropractors or physical therapists. Typically, you must have a very specific type of table that allows the patient to lay down and stretch the spine. There are two different ways to do that: One with cervical spine and one with lower back. Sometimes a therapist will do manual traction where they put hands on either side of the head and just gently stretch the neck. Flu season is here and this is a little tip to help you and your family stay healthy! Washing your hands frequently under warm water is important. Make it a practice to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds upon entering and leaving a new environment, before eating, and after using the bathroom. Hand sanitizers are not as effective as proper hand washing. Avoid touching your face and mouth. If you are in direct contact with a someone with the flu, you may consider using a respiratory mask. The mask functions as a barrier to prevent the flu droplets from entering your body. https://tidewaterortho.com/

The plantar fascia is a long, thin ligament that lies directly under the skin at the bottom of the foot. As the connector between the heel and the forefoot, the main function of the plantar fascia is to support the arch of the foot. Due to the ongoing wear and tear associated with daily activity, this ligament is subjected to a considerable amount of stress. Additionally, the plantar fascia can lose elasticity as a result of the natural aging process, making it even more susceptible to irritation and inflammation over time. The shoulder is composed of the shoulder blade (scapula), collarbone (clavicle), and upper arm bone (humerus). With two joints, the glenohumeral and acromioclavicular, the shoulder is widely considered to be the most unstable joint. It can move in multiple directions and allows you to apply force or pressure, which is why the shoulder is more prone to injury than any other joint in the human body. Shoulder replacement may be recommended if the articular cartilage in the shoulder joint breaks down due to injury or ongoing wear and tear. The function of healthy cartilage is to facilitate joint movement by allowing the bones in a joint to glide smoothly over one another. If this cartilage is damaged, friction can occur within the joint, which can lead to pain and reduced range of motion in the arm and shoulder. WED, FEB 17 AT 6:30 PM EST Discussing Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction with Dr. Maloof
Are you suffering with bunions? A bunion is a bony growth that develops at the base of the big toes joint. When this happens, the bump pushes the bones of the big toe toward the other toes. Bunions deform the feet and usually cause discomfort. Generally, the doctor will be able to diagnose bunions with an examination because most signs are physically available. Sometimes the doctor will request imaging, like an x-ray, to determine the severity of the bunion or rule out injuries. In some cases blood work may be required to rule out arthritis. Check out the seven signs of bunions with the link below! https://tidewaterortho.com/blog/7-signs-you-have-a-bunion-and-the-best-treatment-option

Most injuries to the meniscus are a result of trauma. The menisci are vulnerable to injuries in which there is both compression and twisting across the knee. Meniscus tears are common in contact sports like football, but can occur from taking a strange fall. It is also common for the meniscus to be injured in conjunction with other knee injuries, including tears of the ACL. If an person has experienced a meniscus tear, he or she may notice these five signs: 1. A popping sensation during the injury. 2. Swelling which can develop up to three days after the injury. 3. Pain, generally the larger the tear the more pain you will feel. 4. Difficulty bending or straightening the leg. 5. A tendency for the knee to get stuck or locked up. Do you have discomfort when lying on your shoulder or pain on the top of your shoulder? It could be Bursitis of the Shoulder This is a swelling of a fluid-filled sac called the "subacromial bursa." It's in the shoulder, between a bony protrusion called the "acromion" and the rotator cuff. You have similar sacs near other large joints throughout your body. They act as cushions between your bones and your soft tissue. Normally they have a small amount of fluid inside them. But sometimes they can swell. We call that "bursitis." Carpal tunnel syndrome often causes numbness, tingling, weakness and discomfort of the hand. These unpleasant sensations occur when the median nerve, a nerve which passes through the carpal tunnel of the wrist, becomes compressed. Untreated, carpal tunnel syndrome can become chronic, get worse, and affect your lifestyle. Fortunately, when diagnosed and addressed early, carpal tunnel syndrome is effectively treatable, returning most patients back to full, discomfort-free activity.
