In my time at the Air Force Academy, I was occasionally called a “space cadet” and never liked the reference. Today, I consider it a very appropriate term of respect. Last night, I was able to watch the launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket which propelled the Resilience spacecraft into orbit with both of my sons and my daughter. We were also able to share the experience with two additional CAP cadets and about 250,000 others who have a deep respect for our astronauts and the millions of people who work together to make space exploration a reality rather than just a TV show from 1966. We didn’t see Captain Kirk, or Major Tony Nelson. But we did see the Falcon 9 return to earth only minutes (15) later safely landing on a barge at sea so it can be reused on a future SpaceX launch.
