Today is World Diabetes Day! Two years ago today, our life changed when our daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Two years later, our whole family is healthier and we’ve learned so much about optimal diabetes management.
We have learned the majority of the most helpful information from Mastering Diabetes. Since her diagnosis, they have published their book which is shown in the video and we spoke off-camera about their finishing the book when we all met a year ago.
I’ve had the pleasure of helping several local members of the Mastering Diabetes online program and I regularly recommend their book to patients with Type 1, 1.5, 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Their method works and they have hundreds of peer-reviewed references to back it up!

🌱According to the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), the healthiest diets emphasize whole plant foods over animal products.
Why? well, research has shown that eating mostly foods of plant origin, that’s whole grains, fruits and vegetables and limit alcoholic drinks, is linked with lower cancer rates.🥦🍠
How? Plants produce many phytochemicals (plant chemicals) that may protect cells from damage, they are anti-inflammatory.⚕️
👍They also boost fiber consumption. A research found that each 10 grams of daily fiber could lower the risk of colorectal cancer by 10%.
How do I shift to a more plant-based diet? We suggest making gradual changes:
🥙Experiment with meatless meals. Try making a few meat-free recipe a week.
🥜Use beans for bulk: Increase the amount of beans, lentils and vegetables.
🌱Treat meat like a condiment. Instead of using meat as a main dish, use just a little bit for flavor.

Happy Thanksgiving! Like most of you I grew up calling today Turkey Day. I was a fan of all cuts of turkey. That was when I had high cholesterol. When I realized that having high cholesterol was a choice based on food choices, I opted to keep dietary cholesterol off my plate. My cholesterol has been normal since. My Father went the other route. Instead of changing his diet, he added medications. He took them for decades and was taking them when he died. We miss him, especially on holidays.
