Showing off our veterinary technicians this week! Say hello to Jace! She is one of our certified veterinary technicians here at UVA administering a vaccine to one of our awesome patients! Veterinary technicians are allowed to administer a variety of different medications, vaccines, or other injections while under the supervision of a veterinarian to patients. They are trained where and how to give them. They are also trained on how to place intravenous catheters and administer medications and IV fluids as well. Veterinary technicians also are skilled in phlebotomy too. They can draw blood from many different sites and either small or large amounts of blood depending on what that test requires. At UVA our technicians and assistants take great care of your pets whether they are here for their wellness visit or if they are sick. We know getting pokes can be scary for some pets but we try our best to make it as pain-free as possible. We give the best cuddles and offer treats or toys. ❤

Showing off our veterinary technicians this week! Say hello to Brenda, she is one of our experienced veterinary assistants reading an ear cytology from one of our patients. Being in a laboratory setting is also one of the many skills our veterinary technicians and assistants have. They take samples from the patients, perform the necessary testing, and relay the results to the veterinarian. They perform things such as ear and skin cytology, making and reading blood smears, analyzing blood samples, as well as collection of all of those things. They are trained to detect the types of bacteria they may be in your dog/cats ears or on their skin, detecting different types of cells that may be seen in a blood smear, as well as understanding the different parameters when reading blood and urine samples. Here at UVA we have the capability of in house testing such as blood, urine, ears and skin testing. We also have digital radiographs and ultrasound as well.

All the soft puppies came for vaccines and check ups- then we had little Macho❤️.... He is a senior Chihuahua adopted by a very dedicated owner that is working with Dr Jess to ease his collapsing trachea. Macho is receiving Adequan injections to help decrease inflammation and strengthen his cartilage as well as laser therapy to aid in decreasing his symptoms. “I like to think outside the box to help when traditional therapies are not working. Using evidence based medicine is the best first line, but what if it isn’t working? UPDATE: Broadview PD was able to find a Foster/ Rescue for him... Thank you to all of the people who scrambled to help. We were trying to get the word out and help him... Please don’t beat us up for that... 😔 This guy was found wandering along I-290 near Broadview this weekend... he is at Broadview Animal Hospital and may be sent to be out to sleep if a Rescue or Family cannot take him. 😔😥 He is a good boy and so far seems to have a good temperament. Please help his little self...❤️
