Farewell Dr. Catching! Our beloved Dr. Catching celebrated her last day with us here at VCA Bradshaw this week. Dr. Catching has been a critical part of our care team for the last 14 years. While she will always be a part of the VCA Bradshaw family, we are excited for the next chapter in her career.
Dr. Catching has taken on the role of Medical Director at one of our sister hospitals - VCA Highlands Animal Hospital in North Highlands. We know she will do an outstanding job! In her time at VCA Bradshaw, Dr. Catching built lasting relationships with her clients, and advocated fiercely for her patients. Her commitment to improving our practice will be sorely missed, along with her friendly smile.
We'll miss you Dr. Catching! Thank you for everything you've done for us, and everything you will continue to do in your new role.
Meet Franklin! Franklin is a Blue-tounged Skink patient of ours. We saw Franklin after he ate a hair tie which is normally his favorite tug-of-war toy. You can see the hair tie in Franklin's stomach on the X-ray below. We were worried Franklin would need surgery, luckily our colleague Dr. Sokoloff at Atlantic Street Vet was able to remove the hair tie with an endoscope (a flexible surgical camera), and Franklin made a full recovery!
Blue-tongued skinks are native to Australia, but have been bred in captivity as pets for many years. These large, slow lizards can make excellent pets when well cared for like Franklin. They eat a variety of foods, including veggies, fruits, and insects. They can live for 20 years in captivity, and as you can see with Franklin, can be interactive and playful with their families, making them fun pets!
We have the pleasure of working with many unique pets such as Franklin, if you have questions about exotic pets, give us a call anytime!
It’s Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!
Considering adoption? Consider the “less adoptable” dogs, like Ocean. Ocean nearly lost her hind legs due to violence and abuse in Kuwait. Now, she’s found a new home thanks to VCA shelter partner Homeward Trails.

From Rags to Riches: How Ocean Found Her Forever Home
We know you’re so excited to go on some autumn nature walks with your dog, but for this #FallSafetyTip, make sure you watch out for snakes, some of which can be venomous! They’re preparing for hibernation and may be a little crankier if disturbed by a curious pet! 🐍
When walking or hiking, if something happens to your pet, be sure to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. #VCApets

As an emergency hospital, we get to be a part of many stories, this week we got to play a part in a happy miracle for one of our patients. We met this adorable Dachshund named Puppy when a kind person found him outside limping, and brought him to our hospital. As part of our diagnostic workup, we found a microchip, and were able to locate Puppy's family.
Puppy's dad is a fire rescue worker, who lost many of his possessions in the Oroville fire this year. He had not seen Puppy since the fire, and assumed he was gone forever. Through the information on Puppy's microchip, and the kindness of a stranger, we were able to reunite Puppy with his family. Puppy's dad is currently fighting fires in the Bay Area, but will be back with Puppy soon. Puppy's injuries are minor and he will make a full recovery.
Our Hospital Emergency Services hours have changed. ER services are provided 7 days a week Sunday – Tuesday 24 hours a day and Wednesday – Saturday 7am – 12am. We are kicking off National Pet Dental Health Month off by asking, how healthy is your cat's smile?
Believe it or not, it's very important for cats to receive dental care. Dr. Margaret Smith of VCA West Los Angeles Medical Center explains why in today's #AskVCA segment.

VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital updated their business hours.
On January 19, our sister hospital, VCA Sunset was privileged to be the final destination of the procession of the many law enforcement officers and fire fighters honoring the life of K9 Officer Riley. We are proud of their efforts to serve and provide support to the men, women, and dogs in blue who continually put their lives on the line to protect our community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office for the loss of K-9 Officer Riley and Deputy Adam Gibson. We have all truly lost two heroes and we grieve with you during this time of loss.
