With September wrapping up, we want to recognize a very special member of the VCA Salem team! Dr. Kris Hallden just marked her 20th year with us, which is not only a huge accomplishment, but is unheard of in this field.
Dr. Hallden is beloved by every member of our team, is deeply valued by her many clients, some of whom have been with her as long as she’s been with us, and has long been the foundation on which our hospital is built.
She’s always willing to help anyone on our team and is an amazing mentor to newer veterinarians and support team alike.
Last week, many members of our team planned a “dress like Dr. Hallden” day!
Please join us in thanking Dr. Hallden for an amazing 20 years and wishing her another 20 years with our hospital!
The Salem and Keizer area VCA Hospitals are proud to partner with the Willamette Humane Society and Marion County Dog Services to prepare for the inevitable need to treat and reunite dogs and cats that were unable to be rescued during the evacuation from regional wildfires. Already, our hospitals have been providing housing for owner evacuated pets, but we expect this next phase of the recovery to be even greater in terms of pet care.
While we urge organizations and individuals to first consult local agencies prior to entering certain areas, we are here to care for those pets that need our help! Please follow these instructions for pets not accompanied by their owners and unable to be housed by their finders:
For cats found in Marion and Polk Counties, or dogs found in Polk County that are healthy and not in need of fire-related medical care, please call the Willamette Humane Society at 503-585-5900, extension 300 or email info@whs4pets.com
For dogs found in Marion County that are healthy and not in need of fire-related medical care, please call Marion County Dog Services at 503-566-6933 from 9am-5:30pm Monday-Friday and 9am-4:30pm on Saturday-Sunday.
For dogs or cats found in either Marion or Polk County that are in need of fire-related medical care, please call VCA Salem Animal Hospital at 503-581-1438 or bring to 4053 Commercial Street SE in Salem. The hospital is open from 8a-8p every day. Patients brought to this hospital will be triaged, treated, and once medically able to be, transferred to either the Willamette Humane Society or Marion County Dog Services to be reunited with their families.
For pets recovered outside of those times, please house overnight if possible, for pets recovered outside of those times and in need of emergency care, Salem Veterinary Emergency Clinic is located in Salem and open at night. If rescue organizations are able to remain in custody of pets not in need of medical care, please do so to conserve space in the other facilities and fill out a Lost or Found Report at WHS in order to help facilitate reuniting with families.
Our hearts go out to the families who've been displaced, suffered loss of property or loss of life, and who've been separated from their animals. We are deeply grateful to the actions of our first responders and many private citizens who helped preserve so many areas nearby."
Are you wondering how you can help the animals affected by the wildfires? We can help! VCA Salem, VCA Keizer and VCA Vitality are collecting food for both small (companion) animals and large animals. All food for small animals will go to Marion Polk Food Share and large animal food will go to the fairgrounds which is housing evacuated and displaced live stock. You may drop donations off at any of these locations and we will do all the work. You and your pets are all in our hearts. Please be careful and stay safe. #vcacares #oregonwildfires #marionpolkfoodshare
