I came to BCHS as a stray. Abandoned in a box at a park, I was left scared and alone. Thankfully, someone found me and brought me to BCHS.
I may be shy at first, but I just can't believe that someone had done that to me.. I'm so scared it could happen again.

Unforeseen family circumstances made his adoptive parents concerned that they cannot provide the best life for him and want him to live his best life.
Since he is still puppyish he has a boatload of energy and no real outlet for it. He is a really nice dog that loves people, especially children, through no fault of his own he is up for adoption.

Thunder has been with us for about a month and when he first arrived, we noticed a wound to his side. We couldn’t tell what kind of trauma caused the injury.
Being a typical pittie, he showed no signs of pain but our staff could tell something wasn’t right by the way he was walking, acting and handling himself.
After multiple vet visits and a trip to PVSEC, we decided to take Thunder for a consult at Ohio State next week to see if we can get to the root of his pain and problems!
Please keep this big guy in your thoughts and prayers! Come Wednesday we should hopefully have an update!

We have seen things at the shelter we wish we could unsee. For many of us we carry these heavy burdens in our hearts and in our minds.
We try hard to not let those atrocities define who we are as an organization but rather deepen our compassion and resolve to help more animals.
On Saturday two tan and white dogs were brought in as strays....found running by Alameda Park. As the minutes ticked by their story unfolded. It was discovered that both of these dogs belonged to a drug dealer who is now in jail. Over the summer they had been photographed on the second story of the home with a broken window. It’s our understanding that the individual caring for the dogs decided to move them to an outdoor kennel so they wouldn’t destroy the inside of the home, or try to break out.
There have been multiple police reports called in about the dogs running at large as well as potentially biting someone in the neighborhood. An HPO also went to the home to investigate potential dog fighting (no evidence found).
Fast forward to Sunday night Monday morning, just 36 hours upon arriving, things started to go downhill very quickly. The smaller dog was rushed to an emergency vet where it was determined he was likely poisoned with rat poisoning. As the vets were able to stabilize him, the second pup went downhill. Diagnosis - again likely rat poisoning.
We’re these dogs poisoned then dumped to die? Did they get into something while running? Sadly we will never know but given their previous history our minds go to the first scenario.
We had to make the heartbreaking decision to medically and humanely euthanize the second dog as he was suffering with severe swelling, internal bleeding, and signs of respiratory distress.
We do not know what the future holds for Ernie but we are trying to give him a fighting chance. Treatment isn’t cheap and so far we have spent over $2,000. It is only because of the support from our incredible community that we are able to give dogs like a Ernie a fighting chance - a chance at a better life than where he came from.

At BVA we are in need of blood donors for our canine and feline friends. Our current list of donors is running low and we want to be able to care for any pet that is in need of a transfusion. Will your pet be that hero?
Dogs- must be between 1-7 years of age, 50lbs or over, up to date on vaccinations, and do well with handling.
Cats- must be between 1-7 years of age, over 10lbs, up to date on vaccinations, and do well with handling.
It would be best if you lived within 30 minutes of the clinic so we can get fresh samples when needed.
If you are interested in becoming part of our blood donor list please email us at info@butlervet.com. We will pay for your pet to be blood typed and 4DX tested(dogs) and FELV/FIV tested(cats).

Thunder update: Thunder’s lab work came back and he is cancer free! We are so grateful the cells they tested did not contain cancer. The next step in his medical treatment is to get him neutered in hopes that this will help clear up some of the medical issues he is experiencing. Thank you all so much for your comments and well wishes to him. They obviously worked!
