Early morning visits to the Thornhurst Garden are always wonderful. Here, the cheerful blooms of hardy Begonia x 'Smooch' brighten up this paths edge and the delicate Nerine blooms leave me speechless.

Tomorrow is the first day of autumn. The morning air is crisp, the small garden visitors are busy bulking up for winter, and it is now appropriate to order a pumpkin spice latte.

As we enter the wet, colder months of fall, the garden starts to slow down. Leaves fall from the trees, insulating the plants and creating habitat for insects, but some plants are just beginning to shine.Here are a few late-season bloomers. Sternbergia lutea brightens up the garden with its bright and cheery yellow blooms, and the purple flowers Elscholtzia stauntonii are always a welcome sight.

A new patio and some nice custom-built raised beds are getting constructed and installed this week on this project. This patio will transition into a checkerboard walk. More photos to come!

Forrest and crew compacted gravel and set lines to check their levels for their patio project today. Next week they will begin to scree their sand and set the pavers. This project has been fun, with a wonderful client who has a beautiful vision for their garden.

The Hellebores have begun to open in the Thornhurst garden.

On Monday, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., our entire Winterbloom crew got together for our serve day. We weeded and trimmed, hauled away debris, and cleared paths in this garden that needed some love. The team laid down landscape fabric and added crushed quarter minus gravel for some of the paths to make navigation easier for this wonderful homeowner and friend who loves her garden.
Winterbloom is growing, so we are moving to a larger shop! Our office spaces will now be on site.
We are all so excited!

Here are a few plants that are delighting us with flowers this week in the Thornhurst garden just before the expected snow. The Hellebore, Edgeworthia, and Crocus look happy, and the Grevillea 'Canberra Gem' is just beginning its long bloom period.
We visited a garden we installed years ago to discuss some concerns the new homeowners had. We want the gardens we install to continue to thrive and we are thrilled the new owners are showing such interest in their new garden.
Last month, we had the opportunity to install a patio for this outstanding client.
