For Dr. Brian Moore, the love of medicine is a family affair. “I was four years old when I was introduced to the world of surgery,” he explains. “My father was a general surgeon in LaPorte, and I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps.” He also has several other family members who are physicians, including a distant relative who was a surgeon in the Civil War.
His family has been treating the people of LaPorte since 1963, so it was important to him to continue that tradition. “Beacon was interested in working with me and helping me to still practice surgery in LaPorte, while encouraging me to continue my medical mission work in Africa. They give me the flexibility to dedicate extra time to that ministry.”
For Dr. Moore, general surgery enables him to take care of many common problems people face – from hernias to gall bladder and abdominal problems to cancer and traumatic injuries and some plastic surgery procedures. “No two patients are exactly alike, therefore we treat each one individually and customize their surgical care to ensure the best possible outcome.”
Dr. Moore is guided by the same principle his family has followed for generations – to treat every patient with the same care as they would their own family member. “I want my patients to know that I do care about their well-being and want them to feel comforted, helped and encouraged.”
