James T. Cornwell, MD received his medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Cornwell has been a trauma surgery instructor for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) since 1991 and an ACS member since 1995. He has extensive training in critical care, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery and all areas of general surgery.
He specializes in all aspects of outpatient surgery including repair of inguinal, umbilical and ventral hernias; laparoscopic gallbladder removal, insertion and removal of port-a-caths for chemotherapy; breast surgery, including cancer removal; mole and skin cancer surgery; lymph node sampling and staging for cancer, and vasectomies for sterilization.
A surgeon with more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Cornwell has worked in the LaPorte community since 2000. He is also a member of the American Medical Association.
