Dr. Deborah Skannal knew that she wanted to be a physician from the time she was eight years old. Even as a child, within her was a desire to help people and a desire to serve.
She had always been interested in female anatomy, and the miracle of life and birth. As a believer in God, she was moved to care for female patients as a maternal-fetal medicine physician.
“The most rewarding moment is when patients show me a picture of their baby that they struggled to bring into the world,” Dr. Skannal said. “It’s humbling that they felt I assisted in their care.”
Not only does Dr. Skannal administer excellent care, but she also understands that the patient has a life outside of her office. As she likes to say, life happens regardless to what occurs in pregnancy. For this reason, she can tailor her recommendations based on a woman’s background.
“In some ways I see myself as a tailor,” she said. “I give individualized care to each patient I see. Just like no two tailored dresses are the same, each patient will have their own tailored medical plan.”
Outside of the office, Dr. Skannal enjoys ministry work, playing tennis, and writing. She’s written three books so far, Dimensions, and Give to Live and From Rejection to Rejoicing.
