Dr. Kaplan knew that he wanted to be a doctor when he was in high school. He was drawn into the field by the idea of helping people who need it the most. Combine this commitment with a love of human physiology and a fascination with studying the different life stages of children, and you have the recipe for a phenomenal pediatric endocrinologist.
“My main goal is to help patients understand their medical conditions and to learn how to cope with them when they’re sick, healthy and every time in-between,” said Dr. Kaplan.
To make this happen, Dr. Kaplan relies on a great team to support him. He knows that collaboration among the medical staff, patients and their families is a key for children to overcome their health challenges.
“While there is still no cure for many chronic diseases in children, such as diabetes, we are able to mange those conditions quite effectively so they have no impact on our kids’ activities, interests, or future goals. This requires full collaboration between patients, their guardians, and our caring team,” said Dr. Kaplan.
In addition to making patients feel better, perhaps the most important aspect of Dr. Kaplan’s work is empowering his patients to independently manage their conditions on a day-to-day basis. He encourages parents and older children to think and act like they are their own doctors by learning as much as they can about their conditions.
When he’s not working with patients, Dr. Kaplan enjoys traveling and hiking.
