Dr. Nathan Hunt is a board-certified podiatrist who has foot and ankle patient appointments in our Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley, CO offices.
Dr. Hunt specializes in taking care of patients who have complications related to their diabetes, such as diabetic foot and wound care problems.
He especially enjoys helping patients who have diabetes keep their feet and ankles in good health.
Dr. Hunt has experience with many kinds of foot and ankle conditions as well.
Advanced Wound Care Treatments
Dr. Hunt’s specialty includes the use of advanced wound care techniques to help patients, such as: bio-engineered graft application, wound debridement (removal of damaged tissue), negative pressure wound therapy, total contact cast application, and other techniques to off-load pressure in order to improve healing of chronic wounds.
Dr. Hunt performs non-invasive vascular tests (skin perfusion pressure and pulse volume recording) for patients during their appointments.
Collaboration with Physicians
He collaborates with infectious disease specialists at McKee Medical Center and Poudre Valley Hospital to ensure that patients with active infections are getting the care they need.
Dr. Hunt also works closely with the medical team at the Heart Center at Medical Center of the Rockies to help patients who have problems with arterial blood circulation in their lower legs and feet (peripheral vascular disease).
Advanced Training with Fellowship Program
He has advanced training in podiatry and diabetic foot and wound care techniques through an intensive, two-year fellowship program (2008-2010) at Texas A&M-Scott & White Hospital. Fellowship programs provide additional, highly specialized medical training for a doctor following completion of their residency.
Dr. Hunt’s fellowship was in patient care and research for diabetes and chronic wounds of the foot and ankle. The fellowship was sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association.
He joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies in 2010. He holds board certification through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery.

At OCR, he is a member of the Foot and Ankle Team with Drs. Mike Houghton, Wes Jackson, and Emily Wasko.
Drs. Houghton and Jackson are orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in the athletic and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. Drs. Hunt and Wasko are podiatrists.
Dr. Hunt has completed a podiatry research study that assessed the ability of a product known as the Skywalker medical boot to relieve pressure on the foot. Dr. Hunt worked on this research project with Certified Orthopedics, the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University, and the Medical Center of the Rockies Foundation, which provided funding for the study.
Dr. Hunt is enthusiastic about helping people of all ages regain their health and ability to walk and engage in their favorite sports or recreational pursuits.
He takes care of patients from OCR’s service area of northern Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hunt enjoys spending time with his family, along with running, reading, and writing. He recently qualified for his first Boston Marathon, which he will run in 2016.
