Fourth year for a veterinary student is when their work in classes end, and clinics begin! It is notoriously challenging, with long hours, new levels of responsibility, and work that necessitates the application of years’ worth of lectures and labs. However, students agree that it is as fun and exhilarating as it is difficult. The opportunity to work with clients and patients, nurses and clinicians, and other students in this capacity is not only integral to our college graduating confident and competent veterinarians, but also the very thing all students dream of when they set out on this adventure. Please join us in congratulations our 4th years on making it half-way through their clinical year! #FourthYear #VetStudent #VetLife #PurdueVetMed #ClinicalRotations #BeAPurdueVet #BeAPurdueVet #dogtor #futurevet #futuredvm #futureveterinarian American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges - AAVMC

Pursuing a veterinary education provides the unique opportunity to gain knowledge, build relationships, and create an exciting future as a young professional. It is also a time when students face immense pressure to excel academically and take on additional financial responsibility. Faculty and staff at #PurdueVetMed do their best to support students not only academically, but also as they navigate the “highs and lows” of college life. This year, a global pandemic resulted in additional challenges for everyone, but the steadfast philanthropic support of alumni, clients, and friends made an especially meaningful impact on students in need. Zoe Curtis is a first year DVM student with some awesome experiences! Zoe embarked on an EPIC Research Experience in Tarangire Region, Tanzania. “This EPIC allowed me to engage in hands-on, field experience for 28 days that taught me about the ecology and conservation of Tanzania, Africa. This program visited Arusha National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Randalin Wildlife Management Area, and a Maasai village in Loiborsoit. I was able to experience numerous safari drives and a couple night safari drives during my time in Tanzania. For ten days, in Randalin WMA myself and three other students conducted an independent research project involving giraffes “Twega”. We were able to have meetings with the Tarangire National Park Manager and the manager of Randalin WMA. Through these meetings we were able to understand more about how the protected areas interacted with the surrounding villages. After completing the projects, we got the opportunity to participate in a home stay with a #Maasai family. During my home stay I interacted with the children and lived the true life of a Maasai member. I had the chance to interview my home stay family about their interactions with the protected areas and wildlife. This experience allowed me to appreciate the wildlife in their natural habitat. I gained a new understanding for why and how the local people interact and participate in conservation. #BeAPurdeVet at https://purdue.vet/dvm #purduevetmed #boilerup #purdueuniversity #ZooMedicine #conservationmedicine #vetlife #studyabroad #GlobalExperience #globalexperiences #studyabroadafrica Purdue University
