With fall literally at our doorsteps, here are a few seasonal safety tips as the weather cools off in the Northeast: 1) Keep hot-weather poisons (like pesticides, rodenticides and coolants) in a safe and secure place, 2) never leave your pet unattended in a parked car, since temperatures can drop quickly and 3) allergies never take a break, so keep an eye out for common symptoms like excessive scratching or licking.

Meet Precious! About four years old, this girl arrived in our care when her owner no longer wanted her.
Precious was fostered for a couple months and will make a great companion dog. She can be shy at first, but once she warms up she is very friendly. Precious loves to be with her person and will play with toys.
Precious is completely housetrained. She needs a securely fenced-in yard and a home without cats or pocket pets.

It’s almost #Halloween, so this #FallSafetyTip is all about pumpkins 🎃! Although plain, baked pumpkin can have nutritional benefits for your dog, the stem, skin, pulp and raw seeds are all dangerous for them to eat. When in doubt, stick to dog food or contact your veterinarian. #VCApets

While we encourage everyone to give their dogs ample exercise during the winter, there are some walking safety tips to be aware of. For example, keep an eye on their body temperature, bringing them indoors if they seem or feel too cold. Also, keep your dog away from any blue- or green-colored marks in the snow, as it could be toxic antifreeze!

Meet Adele! She is spayed and up to date on all of her vaccines. This beautiful girl was born in 2009 and first arrived at Loving Heart in April 2018. Adele was adopted a couple years later, but she returned to the shelter in October 2020 because her owner was traveling too much and Adele did not like to be left home alone.

Shadeland is 11yr old. She is spayed and up to date on all of her vaccines. Shadeland was returned to our care when her owner passed away. This beautiful lady would love to find a new home as soon as possible!
