Our residents enjoyed picking out pumpkins at our pumpkin patch this weekend. Afterwards, we served delicious cookies and hot cider for each resident to enjoy!
Despite the rain, residents did a mile walk and celebrated our incredible participants with rewards for most miles walked and most inspirational. We raised over $500 for Walk to End Alzheimer's!

Meet our resident Nina! Nina has been a part of our Solstice family for the past four years. Married to a U.S. Air Force pilot and stationed in Japan for nearly a decade in the ’50s, Nina has a deep bond and love for Japan and its culture. She’s a well-seasoned traveler as well, journeying to the Grand Canyon, China and southern Europe. Nina has three children and many more grandchildren. This weekend, we celebrated our resident Audrey’s 101st birthday! Associates and residents walked and drove by to wish her a very happy birthday! Audrey is known for her thoughtful and kind ways, and all who know her feel truly blessed. Happy birthday, Audrey!
We celebrated Fat Tuesday by learning about New Orleans’ Mardi Gras traditions and dancing to Zydeco music! Several of our residents shared their memories of celebrating the holiday in New Orleans and the many adventures they had.

Meet our resident Nina! Nina has been a part of our Solstice family for the past four years. Married to a U.S. Air Force pilot and stationed in Japan for nearly a decade in the ’50s, Nina has a deep bond and love for Japan and its culture. She’s a well-seasoned traveler as well, journeying to the Grand Canyon, China and southern Europe. Nina has three children and many more grandchildren. She is a part of what makes Solstice at Point Defiance so great!

Yesterday was “nacho” average Wednesday at Solstice at Point Defiance. We had all-you-can-eat nachos, and it was the best “quesonario”! We spiced up everyone’s day with a warm cup of corn chips and melted cheese.

Meet one of our newest residents, Betty! Betty is a true Washingtonian who loves everything our beautiful state has to offer. Boating, whale watching, golfing and spending time with her family are a few of her favorite hobbies. She is also a wonderful cook and talented artist. Betty’s smile brightens our day, and we are so thankful to have her as a part of our Solstice family.
For Women’s History Month, we are celebrating Solstice at Point Defiance’s women and their many contributions and achievements.
Ruth Sullivan is one of our amazing residents who has accomplished so much in her lifetime. She raised five children and had a successful career in nursing. She received her nursing degree from University of Massachusetts and graduated magna cum laude. Ruth continued her education at Northeastern University in Boston and was one of the first pediatric nurse practitioners in the United States! Her career in nursing spanned more than 30 years.
After retiring, Ruth volunteered with hospice in the bereavement department. Her position managing hospice volunteers was very rewarding and earned her the title of Volunteer of the Year. It’s people like Ruth who make a difference and inspire others every day!

Our community was filled with rainbows, gold and good luck on St. Patrick’s Day. Our residents started the day off with a themed scavenger hunt and enjoyed chocolate chip mint shamrock shakes in the afternoon! We also had a limerick-writing contest. Our residents submitted their original limericks and brought lots of laughs to our community! The limericks are hanging in our lobby for everyone to read and enjoy.
