Dana Kaplan, MD is the Director for Child Abuse and Neglect for the Depm1ment of Pediatrics at Staten Island University Hospital. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Member of the Ray E. Helfer Society. She is also a faculty mentor for the New York State Child Abuse Medical Provider (CHAMP) Network to educate healthcare professionals in the identification and management of child abuse cases.
As a Child Abuse Pediatrician, Dr. Kaplan is trained to medically evaluate cases of suspected child physical abuse, child sexual, abuse, neglect and medical child abuse. Dr. Kaplan has lectured both regionally and nationally and is active in research. She has authored several publications and educational materials on the subject of child abuse. Dr. Kaplan's specific area of interest is in commercially sexually exploited youth.
Dr. Kaplan also is actively involved in the education of trainees. She is the Associate Program Director for the Department of Pediatrics Residency Program as well as the Staten Island University Site Director for the Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship at Maimonides Medical Center/Infant and Children's Hospital of Brooklyn.
